Using Zoom: A Student Guide

Your ZOOM Toolbar

Use the Zoom toolbar if you need to change sound, video and chat 

If the toolbar disappears, move your mouse towards the bottom of the screen or touch the screen if you are using a mobile device.

Mute /unmute sound

The menu is at the bottom left of the main screen.  

When audio is mute you see a red line through the icon.

Stop Video

When the video is stopped, your profile image shows (if you uploaded one). When the video is stopped, there is a red line through the icon. If wifi is very slow this can improve your connection.

Need to test or fix the sound?

On the Zoom task bar click on the upward arrow (second from the left) Go to on ‘Test Speaker & Microphone Press enter to start ‘Test Speaker & Microphone’...If that doesn’t sort it use the Audio settings option - and/or use Chat to message your Zoom host.

Chat

Use chat to text your teacher (and others depending on the settings). 

Note for device users
If you find yourself in this screen, swipe right to go back to the normal video window. This will turn 

back on your microphone and video as well.
